Christmas 2009 at St Michael's |
|
For many people, Christmas begins with the Christingle Service at St Michael’s, a service for children which also helps children who are disadvantaged, homeless or disabled in our country through our collection for The Children’s Society. Every child is given a Christingle (illustrated) which represents the message of Christmas – the gift of Christ to be the Light of the World. The service is run twice on Sunday 20th December, at 3pm and 5pm. There is no need to book – just come! (This is in place of our normal Family Service) Christmas Eve offers a choice of 3 services. The Crib and Nativity Service for children at 4.30 pm is followed by our Carol Service by candle-light (7 pm), with beautiful singing by our Church Choir and traditional carols for everyone to join in. If you arrive early you will also hear our handbell ringers. The first Holy Communion of Christmas is celebrated at our Midnight Mass at 11.30 pm. Christmas Day starts with Holy Communion (1662 Prayer Book) at 8.00 am. Family Communion is at 9.30. Children are invited to bring along a gift they have received to show everyone, and the service finishes at 10.30 am.Whichever service you choose to come to, we will be very pleased to see you. We hope the joy of Christ’s birth will bring you cheer and hope for the future.
